Welcome to Apollo Neuroscience

Apollo Neuroscience is pioneering a new category of wearable technology that actively improves health, using touch therapy to promote stress resilience, sleep, focus, recovery, and more. We believe that the human body is powerful, resilient, and has the capacity to heal. When we can tap into our ability to balance and calm the nervous system, we can take better control over our mental and physical health. Feeling well doesn’t have to be a struggle.

Why we built Apollo

We built the Apollo Neuro technology because current health tools often don’t cut it. Meditation, mindfulness, and breathwork may help, but are often not enough on their own. And they’re really hard to learn and and even harder to work into your daily routines, especially when you’re already busy and feeling stressed. The Apollo wearable puts you back in the driver’s seat.

Unlike other wearables, this is not a biometric tracking device. Apollo is a therapeutic wearable, designed to be worn discreetly on the wrist, ankle, or anywhere by clipping it to your clothing, that works by sending gentle vibrations to the body that signal safety to the brain. It's a safe, non-invasive way to relax, get the sleep you need, focus your attention, and find your flow. Using the Apollo wearable consistently over time helps to retrain your nervous system, helping you recover from stress and feel better overall.

Stress relief for modern life

The human body is amazing and adaptive, but it is not designed for the way we live. In the last 40 years we have seen a rate of unprecedented change in how we work, live, and interact with one another. Rates of anxiety and depression are at an all-time high, and two thirds of those living in the industrialized world have trouble sleeping.

Why? Because change has come fast, and the human body hasn't had time to adapt. It’s not surprising that a lot of us are struggling to focus, that we feel anxious or have trouble managing our moods, or we find sleep to be elusive.

We built the Apollo wearable to help our bodies catch up with modern times. While many digital innovations have yielded unintended consequences on our health and wellbeing, we're dedicated to building technology with intention - for the good of our health, our relationships, and our happiness.

“We built Apollo Neuro to help solve a fundamental problem – mindfulness alone is not enough to save us from the mental health crisis. We as humans are not evolving fast enough to deal with the toll that modern life is taking on our bodies and minds.”

Dr. David Rabin and Kathryn Fantauzzi working in their office

Dr. Dave specializes in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Anxiety Disorders and Substance Use Disorders. A trauma expert, Dr. Dave was on a mission to help his patients gain more control over their stress response in the moments that they needed it. He focused on leveraging the idea that our sense of touch can signal safety to our brains, and that this feeling catalyzes a cascade of restorative effects, like lower respiratory rate, lower heart rate, better digestion and sleep, and improved mental function.

Apollo Neuroscience was born from research in neuroscience and psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. David Rabin MD, PhD, better known as Dr. Dave, is a neuroscientist and board-certified psychiatrist who has been studying the effects of chronic stress on mental and physical health for 15+ years.

The technology behind Apollo Neuro evolved from Dr. Dave’s question in the lab - could we use our body’s natural response to touch to restore balance to the nervous system, and if we could, would we be able to measure it? The answer was yes.

After early testing showed promising results, Dr. Dave reached out to his wife, Kathryn Fantauzzi, whose speciality is getting good science and technology out of the lab and into people’s lives, faster. Kathryn joined the University of Pittsburgh research team in 2016 to raise funding for clinical research on the Apollo Neuro technology discovery.

Together, Kathryn and Dr. Dave set out to build an accessible, easy-to-use tool that would empower people to take control over their reactions to stress and make healthier choices. With impressive results from multiple scientific trials, the Apollo wearable shows improvements in heart rate variability (HRV), cognitive performance, sleep, physical recovery, and more.
